Eliza Lee did not have an easy life. Her mother, as far as we can tell at this point, was a single mother until she was just two. She had four half-siblings, her mother died when she was only 15 and her father re-married within a year. She must have felt very out of place at that point. Her step-father and his new wife added four children to the family and eventually moved to Washington state.
At some point, before her step-father moved his family to the US, she was likely off on her own until she met and married her husband at 19. She bore 15 children, three of whom lived only a short time. She was raising eleven of these children in a house smaller than many sheds, less than 500 square feet. When her youngest was seven, her husband passed away and she lived on the farm with one of her sons
She moved from Ontario, to Manitoba and eventually Saskatchewan.
