The year that Hannah Burman was born in Great Yarmouth (exactly 100 years before me), the East Suffolk Railway was opened, General Tom Thumb was entertaining in the theatre, several ships were launched from the shipyard and during a violent gale 14 lives were lost off the coast1. Growing up in a port city must have been interesting.
Hannah did not lead a boring life, she had two children before she met her husband, whom she later lost tragically. She lived to her eighties and appeared to have enjoyed life.
