In my last post, I made the generational link from myself to my mother. Now I am looking at linking my mother to my grandmother.
My grandmother, Kathy, visited us often and we did her as well. This picture of my grandmother with her children includes my mother on the far right.
Documents
Kathleen Anna Johnson (Kay) was born 14 December 1938. The certified copy of her birth certificate indicates her mother’s name was Agnes Kathleen Tomlinson (Kathy).1
Her marriage registration confirms her mother’s maiden name.2
Although the names are mixed and the spelling is not correct, the death certificate also confirms her parents.3 The informant was the funeral director, not a family member.
This newspaper article about the wedding, believed to be from the Terrace Daily Herald, was found in family papers and also confirms her parents.
In addition, the obituary of her mother clearly indicates Kay as her daughter.4
DNA
None of my aunts or uncle on that side took a DNA test. However, I have two cousins that did. My DNA linking back through to my grandmother and down to my cousins indicates the correct range of cM.
Conclusion
The official records, family records, and DNA all support that the mother of Kathleen Anna Johnson was Agnes Kathleen Tomlinson.
With this generation confirmed, we can move on to the third generational link – Kathy to Richard.
