As discussed in my first post of the Bagot to Doomsday Project, I am hoping to prove all the links for the Bagot line. This first post is setting myself in the research and documenting the link to my mother.
For privacy reasons, in this post I will not be including any documents.
I remember my mother as a strong independent woman who always had time for me. Before her illness she also showed her creative side. She wrote poems, drew cartoons (sometimes on the kitchen wall) prepared fancy lunch boxes for auctions, baked and hosted some of the best parties.
I wish I had more pictures of my mother as she died when I was in my teens.. However, not a lot of pictures were taken at the time. One of my favourties is the one below that shows her with the first four children including me (the only girl). I do have my own personal knowledge and memories of my mother, which of course assist, but are not hard evidence.

Documents
Establishing that Kathleen Anna Johnson (Kay) was my mother was fairly straightforward.
I have a certified copy of my birth certificate – not shown here. I have both my baby book and my certificate of baptism, which indicate my mother’s name.

My mother passed away long before DNA was popular, but my DNA matches in the appropriate range with my brothers who have taken DNA tests. I also have an X-DNA match to a brother’s daughter on that side of the family tree. As X-DNA for males can only come through the mother, the matching to my niece must have come from his (and my) mother.

Conclusion
The official records, family records, and DNA all support that my mother was Kathleen Anna Johnson and the link from Kathie to Kay is accepted.
Next Step
The next step is to prove the generational link from Kay to Kathy.
