Ann Lee was the seventh child born to Jonathan Lee and Sarah Holgate. Her parents were born in England and emigrated to Canada. Ann was born in Wellesley, Wellington, Ontario Canada on 25 March 1849 and baptized on 5 August 18491.
She was the second daughter named Ann for Jonathan and Sarah, the first having died within a year after her birth9,10. She joined her older brothers Thomas (1837), Jonathan (1843) and Robert (1843) and her sisters May (1839) and Sarah Ann (1846)2. Her parents added Jane (1853) to the family as well6.
Ann’s mother Sarah died in approximately 1881 and her father remarried in 1882. Her stepmother and father added another eleven children to the family including Joseph James Daniel (1858), George (1859), Evangeline Pricilla (1860), John Nichol (1863), Keziah Elizabeth (1864) Charles Benjamin (1867), and David Noble (1869)6; as well as Richard Alexander (1871), Rebeca Harriet Lilly (1872), William Edward (1875) and Frederick Arthur (1877)7.
I cannot locate a record of Ann or her family on the 1861 census, although the family was in Waterloo county in both the 1851 and the 1871 censuses.
In 1866, at the age of 17, Ann had a daughter Eliza5. When Eliza not yet two Ann married Solomon Angst in 1868. At that time she had been living in Minto, Ontario3,5. Her marriage transcript does not indicate her parents names, perhaps they were not happy with the marriage, or with her at that time.
Solomon and Ann gave Eliza four half-brothers and sisters: Mary Ann (1870), Levi (1872), George Henry (1873) and Sarah Ann (1876)3,4.
By 1871 the family was living in Harriett, in the North Huron County of Ontario1and in 1881 the family had moved to Elma in North Perth County in Ontario2.
As Ann shows up on the 18814census, we are pretty sure she was alive then. However, in December 1882, Solomon married Laura Mitchell8. So we can calculate that Ann died in either 1881 or 1882. That would make her most likely only 31 years old when she died.
