John King was born sometime between 1800 and 1840 (based on the birthdate of his daughter), most likely around 1830 in Ireland.
Sometime around the late 1850s, early 1860s, he married Ellen McCabe. No record has been located for their marriage.
Their daughter Mary was born around 1862, but again we have not found a record for this.
We know that he was probably alive at the wedding of his daughter Mary and Joseph McKee1 as he was not listed as deceased on the marriage certificate. At that time he was listed as a labourer. He was listed as an agricultural labourer on Ellen’s death certificate3, so it may be that he was a general labourer also working in agriculture or he may have been an agricultural labourer working in the fields.
He died sometime before 1891, as on the 1891 Scotland census, his widow Ellen was living in Rutherglen2.
