| HIST | SEE Blog on not related to Bishop of Limerick 7 Jul 2025 - Not grandson of Bishop of Limerick. At the same time as our William was listed on deeds as from Borris in Ossory, the other Wiliam - who built Bethseda Chapel in Dublin, was listed with his wife Mary as being in Dublin. Edward lists William as being son of John. Arthur’s will in 1771 lists only a nephew William. If there were two named William he would have needed to be specific on which one he was leaving a legacy to. Therefore we can safely say that our William is not the grandson of the Bishop of Limerick. 22 Jun 2025 - Possibly grandson of Bishop of Limerick https://laoishouses.wordpress.com/2021/08/04/borris-castle/ https://www.stirnet.com/genie/data/british/ss4as/smith11.php https://www.thepeerage.com/p28015.htm#i280141 Possibly son of James Who was 10th son of Thomas SMYTH - Bishop of Limerick: From UHF Irish Clergy Succession Lists https://ulsterhistoricalfoundation.com/genealogy-databases/clergy-lists/76315 b 1654, Dundrum, Co Down; ent TCD as Siz 3 Dec 1669, Sch 1673, BA 1674, Fellow 1676, MA 1677; TCD Vice Chanc 1714 C St Martin-in-the-Fields, London (Lon); Preb of Devenish (Clogh) and V Grean (Emly) 1692-94; R Boho (Clogh) and Preb of Fennor (Cash) 1693-95; Dean of Emly 1693-95; consec Bp 8 Dec 1695, TCD Chapel; Bp of Limerick, Ardfert and Aghadoe 1695-1725 s of William of Dundrum, Co Down (s of William of Rossdale Abbey, Yorkshire) by Mary, dau of Thomas Dowdall of Glaspistol, Co Louth m Dorothea, dau of Ulysses Burgh, Bp of Ardagh qv.
