Proving that Scots and Irish can get along, Rose Mary Dale, with two Irish parents married John Young, who had two Scottish parents. The two grew up on farms next door to each other in Lower Canada (now Quebec) where both their parents had immigrated.
They eventually moved to Upper Canada (now Ontario) and raised nine children, with eight of those children growing up to adults.
Rose Mary spent her entire life working on a farm, and, I’m sure, doing her full share of the work. However, on the census forms up until 1891 was either not listed (only counted like livestock) or listed without an occupation as only the head of household was listed as a farmer.
